This is the Alabama I love.

Ember and I decided to do some good ol' Geese Scaring this afternoon. We also decided to pretend that we were from National Geographic and talk in British Accents... did I mention that she's editor of the school's newspaper and I'm editor of Lit Mag?

New Year's Eve.
This is the first NYE in ten years where I haven't been planning to go to my town's huge downtown festival... it feels a little odd, honestly. Last year I ended up getting sick and spending the night at home watching the ball drop in Times Square, so I think anything would be much better than last year.
Resolutions for 2010
1. NOT DROP OUT OF COLLEGE MY FIRST SEMESTER. (That's not a real worry, but I felt like it should be a goal.)
2.Always (and I mean always) keep working on being a nicer person. I've made some progress the past few months, but I'm still not exactly where I want to be.
3.Drive slower. I've gotten pulled over three times this year... and it still isn't fun.
4. Gym. blah blah blah...but seriously, I'd like to be down to a comfortable size two. I'm not that far from it, but it'll take some work.
5.Don't date
start dating again
just say no to boys
don't stop talking when I get hit on
Stop worrying about boys, and always remain honest.
I like that one, personally.

Well, I'll make sure to keep you posted on how I do with my goals!
Wish me luck :)

1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Car crashin' (Which was not my fault), Had FUN in Auburn, sneaked a now exboy into the house to watch the ball drop, cried while drivin, took college classes, made an effort to make friends, listened to my mom's advice, was in charge of something, had a role in a play, made a fool of myself in front of friends, went on dates with boys I didn't want to date, not threaten to move out, made decision to move on...this year was the year for firsts.

It's like they're a whole generation of cocktail waitresses.

You know that moment, that feeling? When you give up on being social for the day, climb into bed and prepare for an afternoon of really horrible I can't believe I'm watching this television, and when you turn to the E! Channel, the Top Ten Worst Plastic Surgeries isn't on and instead you catch the opening credits of one of your favorite movies (I don't care who you are)

This movie will always turn me into a romantic. I may have had a pretty horrible date the night before, but the second I see Meg Ryan in her eternally frumpy wardrobe, and I start getting hair/apartment envy, I start to wonder if my dream man is actually my business competition and is actually always a block or two behind me, or walking out of Starbucks as I'm walking in. What if, this movie seems to say. What if I fall in love or what if I go through this huge painful life change and I end up not failing? I already love every part of Manhattan, and this movie just makes me swoon. Small bookstores? The Flower District, the Manhattan that no one thinks about, that doesn't love the million dollar dresses or the idea of Prep Schools, or The Real Housewives of New York, or any of that snooty high brow ideas.
I always end up identifying with Meg Ryan whenever I watch this. I always end up narrating my life, I try to see the lighter side of everything, and I'm just so much of a small bookstore kind of girl.

Mmm, Christmas break

Photobucket
Grace and I doing a photoshoot for Willo Photography :) She called them for her senior portraits, and since I've already done quite a bit of work with them, David decided we were going in his portfolio! This is the first picture he's edited; we're quite fierce <3. I can't wait to see what conceptual stuff he has us do when I call him for my senior portraits!

These are all from the Christmas party I went to last night! I've kind of joined the youth group at Eastern Shore Presbyterian, and they threw a wonderful Christmas party at a member's home! As you might be able to tell, the theme of the night was 'creepin', or that's at least what Ember and I'd like you to think. We all played Dirty Santa, and Ember and I decided to be understated and demure; we took pictures of ourselves at Walmart, printed and framed them, then wrapped them and Nate ended up getting them :) I think it was the best present there!
Well, expect for the Obama plate I won...

Outfit Post

Well, this is my first actual fashion post! I decided to combine it with a "I got my hurzcut" post, as I got my hair cut yesterday. Not a huge drastic change; I refused to let her touch the length (as I'm STILL growing it out. Note to self, never get an angled bob ever again.) but I did get some layers added and I got straight bangs! It's a bit of a trade off; I now HAVE to straighten my hair everyday, but I won't be as insecure about my eyebrows (I swear they're not symmetrical. I don't care what you say, I just know it.) and I just think my face was meant to have bangs. I'm the girl who just looks weird with my hair pulled back. But ANYWHO. As I'm still a senior in high school, my weekday wardrobe is limited; navy or white, and collared, to say it as simply as possible. Most girls end up wearing Hollister khakis (I'm usually one of them, but I'm trying to branch out) and a polo or club shirt with sperrys. This one skirt is possibly my favorite article of clothing, simply because it's so versatile. And I managed to snag it out of Grace's pile at Forever 21 earlier this semester, and it was a whopping ten bucks. I think letting her borrow my spare iPod for the year makes up for it.

I ended up wearing my last resort top, the pintuck blouse I bought in New Orleans this past summer desperately needs ironing and well, it's better than the misshaped Hollister polo I wore to work this summer. These shoes are up there in my favorite thrift shop finds; Juicy flats! I thought they were a steal at around fifteen or so, and pretty decent condition. I think the former owner had even wider feet than I do; the leather's a little cracked on the sides and it took me a week or so to break them in. I think they're a sweet alternative to my weathered and beaten Toms that I tend to live in.
I'm so excited for this weekend! My big brother is graduation from Florida State, and I already decided what dress/cardigan combo I'm bringing :) I've yet to decide if tights are appropriate though, as I'm wearing my silver peep toe heels. I'll make sure to keep you updated on my decision ♥

WHY are these so entertaining?

The way it works:
1. Put your iPod on shuffle.
2. Press forward for each question.
3. Use the song title as the answer to the question.

How am I feeling today?
The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything - Relient K
(This works)

Will I get far in life?
Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want - The Smiths
(This doesn't seem like a good answer. What, am I going to whine every time something doesn't go my way?)

How do my friends see me?
Hit me baby one more time- blink 182
(YES. Please tell me that people see me like this.)

When will I get married?
First Day of My Life - Bright Eyes
(What, so my birthday? Bogus.)

What is my best friend's theme song?
College Kids - Relient K
(We both want to stay at my house and have Mama Baer make us breakfast next year. So it makes sense?)

What is the story of my life?
Your Redneck Past - Ben Folds Five
(...no comment. I DO live in Alabama.)

What was high school like?
Thunder & Lightening - The Unicorns
(excuse me?)

How am I going to get ahead in life?
Roses - Meg and Dia
(What, I'll guilt trip people and mope? Dammit.)

What is the best thing about me?
I'm in Miami Trickk - LMAO
(I am a player. I mean, it's the kind of thing I can't help.)

How is today going to be?
Here's your letter- Blink 182
(So I'm growing up even more?)

What is in store for this weekend?
Cheating on you - Franz Ferdinand
(Well, THAT'S awkward.)

What song describes my parents?
Mesopotamia - B52's
(This just makes me think about the fact that my mom did Jazzercise until she was over eight months pregnant with me. Which is why I love this band so. much.)

What song describes your grandparents?
I want candy - Bow Wow Wow
(Negative, my grandma is a health freak. Unless we're talking about Grandma Baer.)

How is my life going?
Save Me - Jem
(...THANKS. My iTunes and I are obviously midtiff.)

What song will they play at my funeral?
Four Kicks- Kings of Leon
(No comment.)

How does the world see me?
Here Here and Here - Meg and Dia
(I mean, I do laugh. I do get depressed. I do make up songs when I drive.)

Will I have a happy life?
Love Today- Mika
(My iTunes and I made up, obviously)

What do my friends really think of me?
Pretty Girls Make Graves- Smiths
(This can go one of two ways...)

Do people secretly lust after me?
Hong Kong Garden - Siouxsie and the Banshees
(I guess not... apparently I'm a gamble. Oh, I'm a riot!)

How can I make myself happy?
It's Beginning to get to me - Snow Patrol
(Wut.)

What should I do with my life?
The Scientist- Coldplay
(So mourn the demise of relationships?)

Will I ever have children?
Keeper- Yellowcard
(This is a break up song. So...no?)

What is some good advice for me?
Thriller - Micheal Jackson
(Got it ma'am.)

What is my signature dancing song?
Charmer - Kings of Leon
(I am a professional dancer, so I guess.)

What do I think my current theme song is?
Merry Christmas, Here's to Many More - Relient K
(This is scary true.)

What does everyone else think my current theme song is?
Like a prayer- Madonna
(Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.)

What type of men/women do you like?
Seven Nation Army - White Stripes
(yesssssss)

What kind of kisser are you?
Fat Lip- Sum 41
(if that's in regard to the fact that I have giant lips, I'm offended. If it's because I'll end up punching you in the face, true dat.)

What's your style?
You belong with me - Taylor Swift
(I am ashamed.)

What kind of lover are you?
Down, Set, Go - Underoath
(...)

What would be playing on a first date?
23- Jimmy Eat World
(Well that's a downer. O HAI I like you and all, but we're going to have an emotional break up.)

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Dream Girl- The Lonely Island
(THIS REALLY HAPPENED. This is all the proof I need that I'm marrying Andy Samburg.
Photobucket
Chances are, if you ever see me driving around in Lurlene, my BEAUTIFUL Yaris sedan, I'll be singing along to this album. There's just something about Relient K that I've always loved, and I think it's the face that I've always had religious leanings even when I claimed I didn't. Relient K's always been one of my favorite bands, but in the past few months I've been building up my collection of their songs... maybe that's why my mood's been improving so?

I can't believe this semester's so close to being over. It's the longest I've gone without a boyfriend since I started high school! Hopefully I can make it through the rest of the year being a single lady; I think I'm a lot happier, and everything's just so much easier! This year's been difficult, but I've grown a lot, especially in the past two months. I've learned the difference between being "lonely" and "alone", and while it's still a struggle for me to be okay with being alone for a whole day, I'm trying to learn to be by myself with my thoughts. It's hard though, because I do have a thing for being goofy with everyone!

Related to my love of being around people, I can't decide if I want to rush or not. I'm almost definitely going to Auburn, and I've picked out my roomie (that'd be Julia in Forensics. It was actually her idea, and I think we'd work! We get along but we won't expect to hang out all the time, and we have the same taste in TV shows. Gilmore Girls AND Grey's. Match made in heaven!) and she's planning on rushing, and I've been thinking about it, and I keep changing my mind. Would I fit in with any sorority? I mean, I do love wearing dresses and girl time, and I'm the girl that'll make homemade cookie dough and come over when you're down. But I'm also the girl that loves to look up and learn about film, play video games, and wear my thick rimmed glasses (oh, update. My raybans are on BACK ORDER until the first. Apparently they're handmade in Italy or something?! Good thing I found my Betseys, or I'd be squinting and getting some not so adorable wrinkles.) and read Fight Club and Breakfast at Tiffany's and go thrifting and I just don't know! I know I'll probably end up in a sorority, because I do love being around people, and I know it's a major part of my future (as a future public relations major, I'm pretty sure network and a social life will help me out a TON when it comes to job hunting/internships/resumes/experience) and honestly, it's the kind of thing that I'd regret not doing. And if it does bum me out, I can just not pay my dues sophomore year, and I'm done with it! But I'm pretty sure that won't end up being the case :)
